Georges Lemmen

Georges Lemmen (1865 - 1916) was active/lived in Belgium.  Georges Lemmen is known for Pointillist and art nouveau painting, illustration.

Georges Lemmen was born in Schaarbeek, nearby Brussels Belgium.  As the son of an architect, he was encouraged by his father in his artistic leanings.  His father enrolled him in the local art academy, but Georges quickly tired of the tedious instructors and soon school dropped out.

Inspired by his friendship with Georges Seurat, Lemmen began experimenting with Divisionism and adopted a Pointillist style. This unique style of painting is characterized by a methodical and scientific technique known as Pointillism* or Divisionism*. 

Pointillism painters juxtaposed small dots of pure color together to maximize luminosity. The dots appeared to intermingle and blend in the spectator's eye. During this period Lemmen created his signature work, focusing on scenes of tranquility and harmony while emphasizing a sense of balance and clarity of outline.
