Franz Carl Herpel was born in Voronezh, to the family of a German merchant in 1850. Franz Carl Herpel was a prominent marine painter. He graduated in 1874 Koenigsberg Academy of Arts, under the disciple of Ludwig Rosenfelder. He worked in Königsberg. He regularly participated in academic exhibitions in Berlin. Herpel often made voyages to Denmark, France, England, Belgium, and Holland. The artist passed away in 1933.
