Francis Smith

Francis Smith (1881 - 1961) was active/lived in Portugal.  Francis Smith is known for Modernist style, poetic interpretation of Portuguese themes.

Francis Smith was a Portuguese artist who lived in Paris for over fifty years. He was a forerunner of modernism and was known for his poetic interpretation of Portuguese themes in his artwork. He simplified forms with a vivid and luminous palette to evoke the picturesque Portuguese, including the alleys of Lisbon and the spring in bloom in the Algarve. He also interpreted Provence, but his paintings always showed a resemblance to Portugal. He is represented at the Chiado Museum, in State collections, and in the most significant Portuguese private collections.
