Eleanor Brockenbrough was born in Lafayette, Indiana on March 12,1880 and was one of Indiana's historic women artists as recognized by the Indiana Historical Society. Painting during a time when the art movement in Indiana drew national acclaim for its male members, Brockenbrough was one of the many talented Indiana women who chose to explore their creativity and seek training in art.  She studied at the Ferry Hall Academy, Lake Forest, Illinois and the Art Institute of Chicago.  Instructors included: Eric Pape, Boston; Frederick F. Fursman, Saugatuck, Michigan; Charles H. Hawthorne, Hugh H. Breckenridge, Gloucester, Massachusetts.
