Bernhard Dorries

Bernhard Dorries (1898 - 1978) was active/lived in Germany.  Bernhard Dorries is known for Painting, lithography.

Bernhard Dorries was born in 1898. Dorries was a painter, lithographer and art critic. Dorries studied architecture at the Technical University of Hanover in 1917, and later studied art at the Academy in Berlin. Dorries was largely self-taught, and went on study trips to Italy, Spain, Greece and France. Dorries was a member of the board at the Kunstverein Hannover (Secession) and in 1925 was honored with the State prize (Prix de Rome) from the Berlin Academy. Dorries stayed at Villa Massimo, where he studied the works of Piero della Francesca and Masaccio. Dories was part of the Grand Prix of the Paris world exposition from 1938-1945. From 1955-70 he was a professor at the Academy of Berlin. 1937-1944 he was charged with the Great German Art Exhibitions at the Haus der Deutschen Kunst in Munich. Starting 1973 he was a member of the German Association of Artists.
