Eugen Jettel

Eugen Jettel (1845 - 1901) was active/lived in Austria, France, Croatia.  Eugen Jettel is known for Barbizon style landscape and rural scene painting.

Eugen Jettel (1848, Janowice, Czechoslovakia -1901, Lussingrande, Croatia), was a landscape painter who began his art studies by entering the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts at age 15.  Jettel studied there until 1868 under artist Albert Zimmerman and among fellow students Schindler, Russ, Ditscheiner and Ribarz, all early admirers of the Barbizon School of painters.

??Joining the newly-founded Wien Künstlerhaus (Vienna City Art House) in 1868, Jettel then befriended Austrian genre artist, August von Pettenkofen, and began selling his works to Viennese art dealer, Georg Plach. 

Jettle traveled through Italy, but found France more inspiring, moving there after accepting a lucrative contract from Parisian art dealer, Charles Sedelmeyer.??

Eugen Jettel's work was immensely successful abroad. Jettel was nominated as a jury-member of the 1889 World Fair in Paris and received a knighthood of the French Légion d'honneur as well as numerous other awards.
