Adam Straus

Adam Straus (Born 1956) is active/lives in New York, Florida.  Adam Straus is known for Environmental theme landscape painting.

Born in Miama Beach, Florida, Adam Straus focuses on environmental concerns with paintings such as Greetings from Toxic Paradise and Not Quite Utopia, and also addresses issues of homeless people.

He spent his early years in Florida.  Straus took a degree in mathematics from the University of Florida, and there also took photography classes with Jerry Uelsmann and Evon Streetman.  In 1982, he earned an M.F.A. degree from Florida State University.

He taught photography and ran the photo lab at the Art Department, Florida State University for five years.

In 1990, he headed for New York City where, since 1989, he has shown his work at a gallery including a series of memorials based on soldiers who had died in Iraq.  When he first arrived in the city, he earned his living as a trucker and painted at night, but from 1995 he has been doing full-time painting.
