Mariano (Gonzalez) Miguel (1885 - 1954) was active/lived in Spain, Cuba.  Mariano Miguel is known for Landscape and cityscape painting, illustration, teaching.

Mariano Miguel was born in Spain in 1885. He was a writer, journalist and landscape painter who eventually became the Director of the Academy of San Alejandro, Cuba’s official school of art.

After a traditional education in Spain, Miguel relocated in Paris in 1900. He returned to Madrid, Spain in 1901 where he worked as an illustrator for a number of magazines and newspapers. In 1904 he arrived in Cuba where he resumed his career as an illustrator for a number of newspapers and periodicals. In 1908, Miguel returned to Spain where he edited a number of new and influential art and cultural magazines while he studied with a number of successful academic painters including Cecilio Pla.

In 1912 Miguel became a Cuban citizen and worked for a number of periodicals until 1919 when he joined the faculty of the Academy of San Alejandro where he urged the creation of a department of engraving and became its first chairman.
